Nerd Convention watch.
Next month kicks off, at least for me, the Years worth of kick ass Game/nerd/scifi conventions we generally go to annually!
My wife is a big fan of Comic Con, I know there are a few of them floating around the country. They sound really AWESOME and I hope one day to be able to experience one! There is also Origins and Dragon Con. Two other Conventions I'd love to go to someday and haven't yet had the pleasure to experience. Someday... someday.....
BUT-
The two main convo's we hit are the Midwest Gaming Classic in Milwaukee, and of course the grandaddy of them all- GENCON in Indianapolis IN.!!
MGC is 03/26-03/27 and is a pretty decent sized video game convention based primarily on retro gaming. The event is great for people just looking to spend gobs of time playing old video games!! Trading games, buying games, selling games, buying video game books, toys, and other goodies! It's getting so HUGE, the convention literally doubles in size every year!! and in 2011 it is the 10 year anniversary!! woo!!
Gencon is just the king shit! It's pretty much an all inclusive game festival with events and tournaments scheduled around the clock from August 4-7, 2011. The convention technically starts Thursday Aug 4th, but really there are events being planned starting as soon as Monday the 1st! Video Games, Role Playing Games, CCG's Comics, music, dancing, drinking, eating, Books, movies, shows, comedy, partying,..... just... everything. It is really something that EVERYONE should experience at least once, I can't imagine someone having gone in the past and not making it apart of every years plans.
Others:
Also in July there is the Video Game Summit in Illinois. A pretty excellent show, sort of like a smaller version of the MGC, only about 100 or so people have shown up for the event in the past, but it seems to be growing, and could become something really big one day. A much more chill version of the MGC, great time to chat with people, game, and just kick back and enjoy yourself.
No Brand Con is in April this year. I've been told by a few people that while the show does revolve around anime, its quite a good time. Not saying Anime is bad mind you! But, not all anime is good anime, some cosplayers creep me out a tad, and furries..... well- that is just twisted... But it sounds like something I'd like to try someday.
Local conventions:
Evercon and WASFENCON- pretty fun little shows that you get a chance to game, hang out with people and buy up all sorts of goodies!!
Con Schedule: (Tentative)
March 26th-27th Midwest Gaming Classic
April 15th-17th No Brand Con
July 16th Video Game Summit
Aug 4th-7th GENCON
Are there any others that you guys want to check out, or go to that I'm not familiar with?

Re: Nerd Convention watch.
Well'p MGC is now behind us. Leaves us with the Video Game Summit in July and GENCON in Aug.
Seriously considering Geek kon.
What is it? http://www.geekkon.net/
And its in Madison, so not too far to travel. From the sound of it, its got just about everything I'm into. Video games, movies, sci-fi, tabletop, anime, ccg... yeah...
wait does that make me a nerd? LOL
And on another note, I'd like to make first mention of a little convention that my wife and I are planning on throwing together, that is actually going to take place in MERRILL, WI.
News is still very tentative, but we're shooting for Sept 17th @ Salvo's Pizza.
What is it?
Pizza and Games
'Fresh Pizza, Old Games!'
Featuring retro video games and new, tournaments- retro CCG's and role playing.
Running from noon-6 er 8pm ish
should be fun. But I'll update everyone once things get worked out.
